The role of French local and regional governments in European development policy

The French Association of the Council of European Municipalities and Regions (AFCCRE) has reviewed the prospects of French local and regional governments in matters of European Union development policy. This review was disseminated through a publication which aims to contribute to an assessment of French local and regional government participation in European development programmes, as well as the promotion of best practices that have received co-funding from the European Union. The publication also highlights the progressive recognition by the EU of local and regional government and decentralised cooperation in European development policy. Furthermore, it discusses emerging perspectives at these government levels in the context of restructuring French and European development policies.

The AFCCRE is the French section of the Council of European Municipalities and Regions (CEMR), a European organisation that brings together over 100,000 territorial groupings in Europe. The AFCCRE helps and advises French municipalities and regions in its European activities and operations.
