United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG), together with the London School of Economics (LSE), is to lead one of 10 policy units as part of the preparations for the Habitat III Conference, to be held in Quito (Ecuador), in October 2016. More specifically, they will lead Policy Unit 4 on Urban Governance, Capacity and Institutional Development. This is a clear acknowledgement of the role local governments in the Habitat III process.
The purpose of the policy units is to bring together as much experience as possible to develop deeper innovative research and analysis in each field and identify recommendable political practices in each, to help build the New Urban Agenda, applicable for 20 years and the result of the Habitat III Conference.
In this context, from 10 to 12 November, UCLG organised a working session with the aim of providing information, initial planning and exchange of experiences among experts from the policy units. Barcelona Provincial Council, through the UCLG Committee on Decentralisation and Local Self-Government, is taking part in this process.
