Seventh Africities Summit

With the theme ‘Building the future of Africa with its people: the contribution of African local authorities to the Agenda 2063 for Africa’, the Seventh Africities - Summit of African Local Governments was held in Johannesburg (South Africa) from 29 November to 3 December. This Summit is organised every three years by United Cities and Local Governments of Africa (UCLG Africa) with the aim of assessing the application of decentralisation policies in Africa.

The main aims of this seventh edition of Africities were to define common strategies to improve people’s living conditions locally and contribute towards integration, peace and unity in Africa to achieve a prosperous Africa by 2063, with the means and resources to boost its development.

This Summit hosted around 400 exhibitors and brought together over 5,000 representatives including different agents in African local life and partners from other world regions such as ministers and local government authorities, local administration representatives, organisations from civil society, associations and trade unions, economic operators from the public and private sectors, researchers, academics and international cooperation agencies.
