Meeting of experts on municipal financing in developing countries

The UN-Habitat Global Land Tool Network is working to create a package of information on municipal financing in developing countries.  A group of experts met at an event entitled, ‘Municipal Financing in Developing Cities: Review of Land-based Finance Training Package for Financing Sustainable Urban Development’, to work on the creation of a module on land-use management and financing tools for local governments in developing countries.

The main aim of this initiative is to build the capacities of the representatives of local and central governments in land-based finance and management as a basic element of municipal finance. It is essential to increase people’s knowledge of the benefits of land-based management at a municipal level, and to adapt these tools to suit developing countries, where local governments face great challenges in improving public services with very limited resources.
