The UCLG Committee on Local Finance for Development, in conjunction with the OECD, aims to analyse the financial situation of local governments around the world. To do this, it has issued a questionnaire which will enable conclusions to be drawn for subsequent study.
Local government finance is one of the major topics of debate in the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals and will play an important role on the world stage. By doing this, the Committee aims to use the opportunities offered by the conference on ‘Financing for Development’ next July in Addis Ababa, the ‘Special Summit on Sustainable Development’ in New York in September and the ‘COP21 United Nations Climate Change Conference’ in December in Paris to present the UCLG recommendations on financial decentralisation.
This initiative will also serve to prepare a global local finance observatory project, which will be an essential tool to monitor decentralisation processes at the service of UCLG local governments.
