Ghana maintains its commitment to decentralisation

On 14 May, the World Bank and the Government of Ghana published a report on urbanisation in Ghana entitled ‘Rising through Cities in Ghana’, which analyses the growing challenges posed by the country’s urbanisation, including consolidation of the decentralisation process which has been under way for two decades.

Furthermore, this report focuses on four priority areas: integrated land planning for effective urban development; developing energy infrastructure and improving transport sector regulation to improve connections between urban areas and markets; consolidation of successes in decentralisation in the last 20 years, going further in fiscal decentralisation and exploring innovative means of funding urban development; and institutional coordination and harmonisation to facilitate transport, land and planning of finances and connectivity.
