The first UCLG Culture Summit is to be held in Bilbao from 18 to 20 March. This new event was conceived with the aim of promoting exchange of knowledge and networking between cities and local governments that recognise the importance of culture to sustainable cities. It aims to bring together key parties in cultural policy, with special emphasis on cities, local governments and urban actors.
The highlight of this summit will be the presentation of ‘Culture 21: Actions’, a document based on Agenda 21 for culture and which demonstrates an important link between culture and sustainable development, providing guidelines for self-assessment and implementation. In addition, during the summit, the best projects from the first UCLG International Award - Mexico City - Culture 21 and the results of the programme Pilot Cities are to be presented.
