The UCLG Executive Bureau 2014 took place from 17 to 19 June in Liverpool on the occasion of the International Festival of Business.
The sessions, held in Liverpool's Town Hall, began on 17 June of with a series of political debates organised by the Committee on Decentralisation and Local Self-Government on subjects including: the UCLG's Global Agenda; planning and public spaces; the localisation of the Post-2015 Agenda; and Urban Governance and the Global Agenda. These debates were followed by the Statutory Session of the Executive Bureau held on 19 June, reviewing the advances and accomplishments of the UCLG in recent months and announcing upcoming events: the 2015 World Council in Paris, the Executive Bureau 2015 in Porto Alegre and the 2015 Culture Summit in Bilbao.
The events of the IFB also included the BT Global Cities Leaders' Summit, held 18 June, bringing together over 200 local and regional leaders from around the world to discuss how to generate sustainable economic growth during times of austerity. Bruce Katz, vice president of the Brookings Institution, made the opening speech, and the participants in the round table sessions included elected officials such as Greg Clark (UK Minister for Cities), Joe Anderson (Mayor of Liverpool), Fatallah Oualalou (Mayor of Rabat), Jacqueline Moustache-Belle (Mayor of Victoria, Seychelles) and Kadir Topbas (Mayor of Istanbul and President of the UCLG).
